Adam Cox has owned Cox Distributing, 116 Railroad St., Monongahela, for a couple of years. But the beer distributor has been a fixture in the city since the end of Prohibition.
A new proposal by Gov. Tom Corbett’s administration to privatize wine and liquor sales and expand where beer is sold could pose the greatest threat to businesses like his since the 1930s.
“The proposed plan would probably ruin our business and many of the smaller family-owned businesses,” Cox said.
“The Walmarts and such larger stores would have the ability to sell everything by cases and six packs. There would be no reason to come to our place.”
